“Don’t Leave Before You Say These Three”

“Wait! Stay in your chair!” my friend rebuked both his sons, who were sitting at the Passover table. The two wanted to get up and sit elsewhere with their phones as they got tired of reading the Haggadah (the story of the exodus out of Egypt, compiled by rabbis centuries ago, depicting their arguments concerning the customs to be kept during this feast). Growing up in a non-Jewish surrounding in the US, they did not miss the songs we were about to sing, or the edible symbols the long annual meal was pointing to on and off (this special meal, called “Seder”, can last anywhere between 2-4 hours).

But their father was truly concerned. There was one sentence he needed them to quote that night from the Haggadah before he could let them go: “Whoever does not discuss the following three things on Pesach has not fulfilled his duty: Pesach (the Pesach-sacrifice); Matzah (unleavened bread); and Maror (bitter herbs).”

The two young men cited it with dull voices, and went on with their business. The rest of us continued to read the Haggadah for a long hour, than stopped to eat an abundance of traditional dishes, and than went back to reading and singing the last parts of it.

The children of Israel passing through the dry land
in the midst of the dead sea – a great design for the Passover table

Why was it so important for my friend? Because Rabban Gamliel (10BC-70AD) said so. Gamliel meant that fathers must teach their parents about each of these symbols, so that we will never forget how we were brought out of Egypt, that there was a sacrifice that paid the price, and that life were bitter in slavery. But through centuries, the only MUST that survived in many Jewish homes is saying these three words. In Hebrew of course. Doesn’t matter if you don’t understand their meaning. Just say them, so your papa can regain his peace, knowing he did his part.

I was watching this little episode, amused, but also deeply touched and surprised. This was the first time I attended a non-Messianic Passover meal in years. I usually celebrate it with my family. We developed our own version that takes the best from the Jewish tradition and brings God and His Lamb into it. I forgot all these must dos and mustn’t dos around this feast.

What Must We Do?

Here is the list, according to the Torah:

“The Lord’s Passover begins at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. On the fifteenth day of that month the Lord’s Festival of Unleavened Bread begins; for seven days you must eat bread made without yeast. On the first day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. For seven days present a food offering to the Lord. And on the seventh day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work” (Lev. 23:5-8).

We are told on what date to celebrate it, what sacrifice to bring, what to eat and read, and what to abstain of (work).

Nowadays the celebration peaks at the eve of the holiday, called the Seder. At the center of it there is this fancy family meal, with many guests, sitting around the table and reading the Haggadah. This booklet, by the way, does not even mention Moses’ name!

Passover is supposed to remind us that we were delivered from slavery, but any bystander looking at the particular and meticulous preparations Jewish women go through to get ready for it, turning every piece of furniture and every drawer in the house searching for leaven, can clearly see that delivery from slavery is not exactly one of the values set before us during this feast.

We have deviated from God’s original command, and instead of meeting Him during this feast and learning more about Him, we turned it mostly into a social event. Why have we deviated so far from God’s original plan for this feast?

The reason is interesting, historical and significant. I will explain it in my next post. In the meantime, will you please pray for our nation, as we prepare for the big celebration tomorrow night?

You can pray that as we clean and search for leaven in our belongings, we will be as diligent to look for it mostly in our hearts.

That somehow the powerful symbols we will have on our tables will make us search for their meaning; that our nation will not just say the words in order to fulfill our duty and calm our papas, but that the words will seep deep into our being. That we will desire to understand the need of a Passover Lamb in order to preserve our lives from death.

You can also pray concerning our bitterness towards God. This is our general attitude towards Him, even among atheists. Just like Naomi, who identified herself as bitter upon returning home from Diaspora, and needed a gentile relative to communicate with her the kindness and provision of the Redeemer, so do we need you, our Gentile brothers and sisters, to come alongside us and melt our bitterness towards Him.

If you have personal contacts with Jews, take this opportunity to wish them Hag Sameach and share with them a short testimony of how God has delivered you out of a specific slavery.

A Bible Book that Hides Him

This weekend we celebrated the feast of Purim, commemorating the deliverance our nation experienced during the exile (after the destruction of the first Temple). The story took place during the reign of the Persian empire and is described in the book of Esther.

This book provides an interesting example of the way the face of the Messiah is hidden from the Jewish people. The very name of the book testifies to this, as the meaning of the word Esther is derived from the Hebrew root STR. This same root translates elsewhere in the Bible as “hidden.” And indeed, this is the only book in the Bible that does not mention the name of God or the land of Israel. Some even call this book the “Hidden Faces Book.”

Its not a happenstance. The very essence of it is the hidden God. Though Esther was chosen to be queen, her relationship with king Ahasuerus is a picture of alienation. She didn’t even dare approach him without an invitation. And though she was chosen to be his wife, she never exposed her true identity to him.

Queen Esther | queen esther enters the hall of ceremonies facing xerxes sitting on ...:

The book describes a period in the history of Israel during which the Face of God has been hidden from his people. However, though He may not be mentioned by name, He is the one pulling the strings behind the scenes and directing the story to its good end, when “for the Jews it was a time of happiness and joy, gladness and honor” (Est. 8:16).

The Old Testament itself clarifies the importance of this feast:

These days [Purim] should be remembered and observed in every generation by every family, and in every province and in every city. And these days of Purim should never fail to be celebrated by the Jews – nor should the memory of these days die out among their descendants (Est. 9:28).

How interesting! This decree has not been pronounced upon any other feast in the Torah, not even Passover, which is considered the most important feast in the Jewish calendar. Why? The saying is that all the feasts the Torah commands indicate something that has already happened in Jewish history, while Purim hints to the complete redemption we still await on, redemption by the God whose identity, and even His name, are still hidden from us. The rabbis therefore decreed:

In the future, all of the holidays will be nullified… the days of Purim will never be nullified (Yalkut Shimoni, Proverbs, Remez 944).

A little Bit of Nachat

Waking up this morning I thought I knew the rules of the game. Earlier this week, 154 stones in a Jewish cemetery in Missouri were violated. Anti-Semitism world wide was on the rise, and maybe it was time for me to bring my angle about this. But then I pulled up the Israeli news site and read that Vice President Mike Pence put on gloves, flew into Missouri and helped clean up the place. (http://patch.com/us/white-house/mike-pence-helps-clean-vandalized-jewish-cemetery)

Than I recalled another piece of news I saw this week: Nicki Heily, the US ambassador to the UN, condemned the UN tendencies against the only democracy in the Middle East – Israel. (http://www.theblaze.com/news/2017/02/20/nikki-haley-slams-united-nations-for-anti-israeli-double-standards/)

Earlier this week Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Australia. This is the first time an Israeli PM is received in Australia. Not only that, he was welcomed with a heartwarming, unique speech! We are so used to the world going crazy, in the opposite direction to God and in clear objection to His people. What shall we do when the world is getting even crazier, and influential politicians start liking us and talk about it in front of the media?

The most bizarre yet in my opinion: an Israeli news site published a piece two days ago. I can assure you we never before came across such information. (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4922341,00.html)

Does the world really wants to turn Jewish? What is going on? Will I have anything left to write about?

Then it dawned on me: I do not believe it! Deep down inside I don’t believe we will be wanted or loved as a nation. Ya, maybe one day, in heaven. Not down here. Sure, all those incidents reported above all happened. Yes, something different is happening in western politics where Israel is concerned, but deep inside I just know there must be a catch. Soon the cameras will be turned off, the lights will be turned on and we will all see what is really going on behind the scenes.

For decades, centuries, even millenniums, we have been so used to the world turning against us. No matter what the facts were, eventually we were found guilty. No matter what atrocities were done to us, we were the ones who had to defend ourselves (not that it made much difference). We were the ones left to clean up what others have done against us.

Several reports coming lately out of Arab nations tell that Jews should no longer be blamed as a nation for all disasters throughout history; that the Palestinian cause is no longer a primary concern in the Arab world. These reporters’ heads are still sitting on their shoulders.

Another Saudi journalist said that the Arab world is no longer concerned with the Palestinian cause as it used to be, and that continuing with armed resistance only hurts the Palestinians themselves.

A Kuwaiti journalist expressed his support for relocating the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. “Be Brave – move to Jerusalem and trust in God,” he said.

Ah?

Things are changing inside Israel as well. A decision was passed recently by our Knesset, which regulates the legal status of settlements behind the green line. This legally establishes the status of hundreds of thousands of Israelis, who settled in the mountains of Judea and Samaria. They did it at the prompting of previous administrations, but later on became the recipients of much despise, especially from the media. These residents were facing a constant threat of evacuation, living with an ongoing sense of uncertainty. Finally there is an end to this crazy affair, which has lasted for decades.

Yesterday, four new judges were elected to Israel’s Supreme Court. Up to now it was comprised for the most part of left wing judges, who led some sort of a revolution – i.e. meddled in the minute details of legislation and prevented a large majority of the government’s decisions. Indeed, they have the legal right to do so in Israel. However, this new body of judges elected is much more conservative. It will not interfere in such a way with the government’s ruling, and is much more right winged and religious in nature.

Have we hardened our hearts, or is it only me? Prayers are answered, things are moving in the international arena, but can we see see God’s mighty Arm moving on our behalf?

I know… there are end time prophecies. There are still difficult and painful days to come. But in the meantime, I will try and do with a bit of satisfaction. Satisfaction – “Nachat.” A great Hebrew-Yiddish word. I’m not sure it can be translated into one English word. It alludes to comfort and convenience, warmth and a wide smile on one’s face. Yes, we can do with some Nachat. So, why do I feel like I still need to keep my gloves on?

Oh well, Shabbat is at hand and I have to go and cook dinner. For a little while I can exchange the boxing gloves with disposable ones.

I wish you Shabbat shalom, full of Nachat

Tu Bi-Shvat

Tomorrow is the 15th day of the Jewish month Shvat. All over the country people will plant trees, upgrade their yards and gardens, eat fruits and enjoy the fact that we are once again established in our land, able to enjoy it, toil it and reap its fruit.

Sixty eight years ago this was also the festive and exciting occasion, when the Israeli parliament – the Knesset – gathered for the very first time.

use-this-one

Dr. Haim Weizmann’s speaking at the opening session of the Knesset

Dr. Weizmann gave an amazing speech in the opening session:

“It is with a sense of honor and awe that I rise to open the Constituent Assembly of the  State of Israel, the first Jewish assembly of our day, in Jerusalem, the eternal city. At this great moment in the history of our people, we give thanks and praise to the God of Israel, by whose grace we have been privileged to see redemption, after generations of suffering and misery.

“This occasion is the outcome of the tremendous reawakening of our national consciousness during the last few decades. It began approximately seventy years ago, when the best among us, the unknown and nameless leaders of that generation, arose to fulfill the age-old dream of the return to Zion and the revival of national existence.”

Two days later he was elected as the first president of Israel. Ever since than, our Knesset celebrates its annual birthday on this date.

Weizmann died on November 1952. Among the many souvenirs he left behind was a fancy booklet, titled Comfort ye my people. It includes chapter 40 of Isaiah, and a picture of the scroll found around that time in the Qumran caves near the Dead Sea.

This booklet was handed to Dr. Weiznann on that very occasion – the first formal session of the Knesset. The chapter speaks about the end of the Jewish exile and the return to our land. The proximity of these events to the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls certainly contributed to the symbolism of the entire occasion.

Earlier this week the Jewish National Fund (a non-profit organization founded in 1901 with the purpose of reforesting the Land of Israel) had set out plants all over the country and dug the appropriate holes. The crowds are invited to come today and tomorrow, plant a tree and contribute their part in the restoration of the barrenness of Israel.

imagesnyg19d54imagesqwim2i9e

Throughout the country these images can be seen today and tomorrow,
as families join in reforesting and restoring the land,
especially after the horrible fires we had a few months ago

So today and tomorrow, as even atheist and secular Jewish families will take the opportunity to get re-connected with the Land, you can pray that we will also search for the true root, The Root; That we will appreciate the fact that we are back in our land. We do tend to take it for granted, as if there was no holocaust, no exile. What a great opportunity to look both back and into the future.

I am spending some time in the south of Israel now, in the Negev desert, mostly writing. I was a bit surprised when I realized God wants me to focus this year on a couple of projects that are quite different than the usual stuff I do. I will write more about it soon. The southern part of Israel is the least populated area in the Land. Travelling and walking around here reminds me of just how many more of our people are still in exile, and how this land yearns for them to come home, settle and toil and tie their restoration with hers.

Keep gathering us, Lord, from all corners of your earth. Speak to your nation, awaken in your people their original ancient calling, and develop in them an urge to be established back in their land. And also reveal the Jewish face of your Son to them, so they may call on His name and be saved.

Wounds | Intercession | Entreating – part 2

PAINTING | h a r r y a l l y | suzanne w ally:

So what do our wounds have to do with Israel?

One of the main words in Hebrew translated as “wound” is derived from the root PGA (פגע). Another Hebrew word derived from this root is intercession (הפגעה). I know there is no semantic connection in English, but the Hebrew makes it clear and inspiring!

I intercede best for people who are wounded in a similar manner to my past wounds, under one condition: that I allow God to touch that wound and heal it. If I don’t, if my wound keeps bleeding and I choose to sulk in it or wait passively for someone else to do something, I only end up wounding others. Only when I allow His blood to soothe my bleeding (mostly through repentance and forgiveness), I can efficiently stand between Him and a wounded person, a wounded group, even a wounded nation.

Do you see your wounds as a calling for intercession?

Are you allowing God to touch your wounds with His blood? Or do you continue to bleed and thus wound others? Do you realize your wounds and suffering are God’s way to train you, so that you can stand in the gap between Him and others who suffer but do not approach Him?

If Israel is on your heart, if you committed much of your walk with God to stand with her, it is crucial that you understand how your wounds should be woven into your intercession on our behalf. Without it, you won’t be able to be a real Ruth in any area of your life that still bleeds.

You may be hurting for a lost child. If so, every time you pray for this beloved child, please remember the lost children of Israel. Tap into God’s pain in that area, fellowship with Him by getting to know His heart concerning this wound, look for specific promises in His Word that claim the restoration of this kind of wound, and start shooting these promises as arrows towards the target. You see, in Hebrew, shooting darts towards the target is also derived from the same root – PGA.

The Lord may have written your life story with plenty of arrows in your quiver. You may feel handicapped and unable to stand in the gap, while the truth is that you are called to shoot God’s Word towards the target so that you can get healed, not after.

And maybe your wound is a chronic depression or a broken marriage, or a long battle with addiction. Do you focus on your suffering, or can you allow God to show you how He suffers in a similar way because of what is happening to His nation?

Is your wound a result of injustice inflicted upon you? Than use it as a point of reference in your prayers for the corruption and oppression taking place in Israel, and the injustice inflicted upon us by the UN and the nations. Take God’s promises to establish righteousness in the Land, and shoot it as arrows on your behalf and on ours. This is how your wound – PGiAh, will become an arrow that hits (PoGeA) the target and intercedes (maPhGiA) for Israel.

Those Who Bless the Seed of Abraham Will Be Blessed

Yes, true. But blessed how? Does it mean constant abundance? Zero struggles? And what if the kind of blessing God chose for you is to fellowship with that part in His heart that aches for Israel? That invests in her and pours love on her, just to be ignored and rejected? Will you still consider it a blessing?

Orpah and Ruth started the same journey with Naomi, assisting her on her road back home and to her God. But somewhere down the road Orpah (means “neck”) goes back to her comfort zone and out of the story. Ruth (meaning “friendship”) chooses to stay. Her amazing statement of faithfulness (Ruth 1:16-17) says among other things: “I am behind you and alongside you, to let you determine the pace and direction”.

What touches me most is Ruth’s request: “Entreat me not to leave you…” An inaccurate translation, I must say. The Hebrew is so rich here, as Ruth actually begs Naomi: “Do not wound (tiPhGAee) me to leave you…”

Has one of your wounds been caused by Israel. If so, will you please share it with me, as I would like to hear it and ask you to forgive us for being so ignorant. Many Gentiles love us, and are even willing to die for us, but our nation rejects them or ignores their investment in us or misuses it. If this is your case, may I ask you: how did you deal with this wound? Are you able to repeat Ruth’s words and stay with us even though we wound you to the point we make you want to leave?

Please realize that in many ways we treat God the same way we treat those who love us. We may be aware of the fact that He is in the story, just like Naomi knew Boaz, the one who can redeem her, is in town. But like her – we may not want any direct relationship with Him since He had inflicted so much suffering upon us.

Many lovers of Israel have experienced that kind of rejection. They wanted us to enjoy the programs that work for them, to move forward in their pace, to adopt their terminology, but in the long run – it did not work, and down the road it gave birth to much disappointment on both sides.

If This is Your Case, Let Me Ask You…

Is it Israel that you love, or the God of Israel? Sounds the same, but it’s not. If your eyes are fixed on Israel, if you are fascinated with our wits, brains, victories, culture – we will disappoint you somewhere down the road. And you may even get tired of us. However, if it is the God of Israel you set your eyes upon, than our slow pace and low numbers in salvation and miracles taking place, as well as the fact that all the programs you may have tried to bring here don’t really work as they do in your culture – will not break your heart neither cause you to distance from us. To the contrary, it will urge you to get faster into God’s bosom, in order to figure out how He sees it and how He wants you to fellowship with Him in that wound.

Will You?

Will you allow God to enrich your prayers for Israel by looking at your bleeding spots as a calling for intercession?

Wounds | Intercession | Entreating – part 1

it had taken them days to find Val, searching the backstreets of the city and the deserted cellars. Badly bruised and eyes tired, slumped in the corner of their old flat. She'd gotten into another fight. Typical.:

Does God suffer? I was thinking a lot about it during my recent tour in the US. The answer did not come immediately. But eventually I knew: yes, He does.

The sinfulness of the human race surely inflicts suffering upon Him and doesn’t make Him happy. And the way evil people treat the righteous and persecute His faithful ones also arouses His wrath.

But what about us, His children? Do we cause Him to suffer?

I can easily make a list of that which inflicts suffering upon me. When people speak against me behind my back, I am not happy about it. When someone rejects my friendship or offer of help, I feel sad. When a person I invested much counselling and prayer into their lives, chooses a superficial path and does not allow God to touch him or her in a real way, that truly quenches my soul.

When I minister to a non-believer, or even to a new believer, I have zero expectations where their morality and maturity are concerned. I almost expect the worse and get excited over every little insight they acquire. But when I pour my time and resources into someone else’s life, walk with them as they taste of the divine and live in it, but then see how they choose to chase an unnecessary rabbit trail and gradually become satisfied with complacency in the matters of God – that does not bring happiness into my soul.

Does it break God′s heart? Well, He speaks strongly to Israel about giving up the riches He offered her for the colorful and sensual shallowness that the gods of the land offered. It broke His heart, ignited His wrath and eventually caused Him to hand some of His authority over to torturers. And boy, were we tortured throughout centuries.

Where are you when it comes to the best God has revealed to you? Did it become a part of your lifestyle and routine, or only a story you share? What hurts and inflicts suffering upon you? And what do you do when you face a hardship? Have your struggles and unanswered prayers hardened your heart towards God? Do you stuff yourself with chocolate (my favorite “solution”), indulge in other forms of addiction to numb the pain, run to someone to gossip or maybe shut in and detach yourself from others?

Where is God when you hurt? And why do you think He even allows it? Why doesn’t He put an end to our pain? Come to think of it: why doesn’t He put an end to His own pain and suffering? After all, unlike us, He can be done with it in no time, yet He chooses to continue to suffer, and it does not harden His heart or change His love towards us.

I think there is an aspect to suffering that we can’t fully grasp from this side of heaven. Most of us look at it as something that needs to be dealt with, a punishment or a proof that God is hiding Himself from us because of some misbehavior. Is it? Does suffering look the same from His angle as it does from ours?

No, it Doesn’t

Suffering apparently achieves something that can not be accomplished without it. Among other things, it teaches us to obey. After all, there was some form of obedience that even Yeshua Himself could learn only through suffering (Heb. 5:8). This verse is so powerful and strange. Why did He have to learn to obey? Was He disobedient prior to it? Obviously not.

Hebrews 2:10 adds to that: “For it was fitting that He, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.”

Love this. Fix what's broken with gold. See the beauty in your scars.:

Here it is again: suffering leads to perfection. It is a tool that we underestimate, do not fully understand, and thus – neglect to treat in the proper manner.

Back to Our Wounds

Which wound or hardship brings much discomfort into your life? Can you see God’s hand behind it, pulling the strings, or are you praying that He will remove this from your life?

The discomfort or hardship you are going through right now might be His way to deliver a message that you did not heed while He tried to get your attention in a more tender manner. Because of His unfathomable love, He never gives up on perfecting us. When we turn a deaf ear and focus on removing suffering from our lives versus allowing it to mold us, raises up the volume of His knocks (Rev. 3:19-20).

Will you open? Or will you inflict more suffering upon the lover of your soul and prolong yours?

What does all that have to do with Israel? Mmm… wait for part two of this post.

Israel Ablaze – In Numbers

15202540_10153828686076371_3893579955064779748_n

5 days;

2,500 fire fighters;

1,773 fires throughout the country, 39 of which required more than 10 separate teams working in unison to fight the flames;

It is suspected that 25 out of 39 severe fires were started by arsonists, so dozens of suspects are now under investigation;

Hundreds of houses burnt to the ground;

Tens of thousands of people evacuated from their homes;

About 180 people hurt and hospitalized, two of which were in serious condition and one in moderate;

The city of Haifa (up north) has sustained the most significant damage: 527 homes completely burnt to ashes in this city alone;

The cost to private citizens and the government will probably exceed $1 billion;

Over 5,000 acres of land burned;

Full restoration can take nearly 30 years –

But above all – One God, who was not caught by surprise, and who has a specific plan for this nation, that will eventually reveal how even this new form of terror will serve His higher good.

Some Additional Details

Some of the fires burnt in extremely densely populated areas such as Haifa, where there is a vast array of dangerous material industries. Thank God, there were no leaks or damages to those plants, but the air there was extremely polluted, in part also due to the fire retardant materials that have showered the city from above for two consecutive days.

But the diligence and professionalism of the firefighters, combined with the extraordinary cooperation between Israel and the Palestinian authority, vast searches to find the arsonists and a clear declaration by Prime Minister Netanyahu that whoever is found guilty will be dealt with harshly, have all led to a lull.

As of now, we are having a rainy weekend, a blessed shower of water all over the country. It clears the air, fills up the water reserves and helps us all breathe better and stop scratching our skin. With nearly 10% humidity in the air for long days, most Israelis were walking around with dry lips and irritated skin.

Please keep your prayers coming. As people are going back to their homes and discover the vastness of the loss, the trauma they face can become a crossroad: will they look to the mountains and wonder where their help will come from, or lift their eyes up higher, to God, the maker of heaven and earth, who will not allow their footing to slip or be moved?

Our nation has seen God march before us in a pillar of smoke and fire, using that same pillar to separate us from those who seek to destroy us. We can pray that the pillars of smoke and fire, and the ashes and the destruction they left behind will soften hearts and cause us to recognize His mighty and outstretched Arm.

(Images taken from ynet.co.il)

In my recent visit to the US, I shared a new insight God has given me in regards to suffering – the meaning of the word PGA – translated in English into hurt, suffering, hitting the mark and also intercession.

So many of you commented about understanding what we are going through in light of the fires raging in various parts of America as well. This is a perfect example of being able to stand in the gap based on personal knowledge and experience. I will share more about this in my next post.

In the meantime, here is a link to my youtube teaching about the subject of the connection between wounds and intercession.

Israel Ablaze

In the past three days many places across Israel have been burning. Literally! Whole neighborhoods and villages are evacuated. Dozens of thousands of people are required to leave their homes, and some of them, when the fire ceases, find out they have nowhere to go back to.

Yesterday the fires consumed houses in Zichron Yaacov (a gem located near the coast) and Latrun. Today the fire fighters have been fighting dozens of fires in the north and center. The number of individual fires started yesterday alone amounts to over 220 (yes, two hundred and twenty!).

Thank God, so far there has been no loss of life – please pray that this will stay the case!

At this point it is almost certain that these, at least most of them, are a new form of terror. That, coupled with the extreme dry conditions and strong winds blowing since the day before yesterday, cause the fires to spread. The weather forecast tells that these winds will continue for at least two or three more days, so this attack could go on and cause a horrific damage throughout the country.

The picture bellow shows a fire starting device found by the border patrol up in the north. This wave of fires has been already dubbed the Fire Intifada.

Please pray for protection of the residents in the burning areas, Jews, Arabs, Druze and other minorities. So far, praise God, there has been not bodily harm or loss of life. Let’s pray that will continue to be the case!

Above all pray that God will use this to touch the hearts of those involved – those who had to evacuate and leave all their belongings behind, those who lost everything they had to the fires, and those who came to their rescue. That He would touch their hearts and cause them to turn to lean on the strength He alone can offer them.

May He pour out rain from above – this land is in dire need of rain regardless of the fires, so how much more now! May He stretch out His hedge of protection and keep us safe from this wave of fires – whatever their cause may be!

Follow Up on Mekudeshet and Travelling Information

The Mekudeshet festival is over. Seemingly, nothing exceptional has happened, nothing out of the ordinary. This festival has been held in Jerusalem annually for a few years now, but in previous years it only lasted over a short weekend, and focused mainly on religious music. This year it went on for three long weeks, and had introduced new aspects, that had nothing to do with its previous definition.

The name “Mekudeshet” hinted towards holiness, but in reality, what took place was a feast of emptying sacred terms from their true meaning, and contributing to the numbness of the Israeli people to God’s mind.

On a different matter, or maybe not… This coming Sunday the Jewish world will celebrate Yom Truah (Day of Trumpet) – “And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no regular work: it is unto you a day of blowing the trumpets” (Num. 29:1).

During the years spent in the diaspora this feast has somehow turned into the Jewish New Year’s (Rosh Hashana). Truth be told, it is not the new year, for God’s calendar begins with Passover (April). Something very sad and complex has happened to the Jewish calendar over the years. But I’ll write about that in another post.

Travelling to the US

Shortly after I will be boarding a plane on my way to the US. The only ticket I could find within my budget is taking me to Atlanta through Istanbul, Turkey. The Israeli foreign ministry had recently published a travel caution alert to Israelis, warning against traveling through Turkey, and especially getting around airports. I appreciate your prayer covering during my travels, for my safety and for all the opportunities awaiting me during this trip to share about the widowhood of Israel, to recruit her lovers to stand by her side, to comfort broken hearts and to bring forth what God will lay on my heart.
